Welcome to l'Acadie... where authentic Acadian culture comes to life.

Come Celebrate the Acadian Culture

All along the Acadian coast, you can sample the same joie de vivre that defined the Acadian culture almost four centuries ago. Live their history at the Acadian Historical Village in Caraquet, join in the festive Tintamarre (a noisy parade), kick up your heels to the music - baroque, fiddle. Hear their stories at the Acadian Odyssey at Monument-Lefebvre in Memramcook, then let the characters of Antonine Maillet draw you into their lively performance at le Pats de la Sagouine in Bouctouche. Witness the inspiring Blessing of the Fleet ceremony in Caraquet at the Acadian Festival take part in the week-long pilgrimage at Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage. Kick up your heels, learn to play the spoons and celebrate a proud culture all year long!

Taste a Bit of the History...

And best of all, you can taste the history in traditional recipes like poutine rapée (a mixture of potatoes formed into a ball around chunks of pork), chicken fricot (a savoury stew of chicken and potatoes) and clam pie (a luscious thick chowder cooked up in a pie crust). Satisfy your sweet tooth with a saucy pet-de-soeur, (a buttery-sweet sticky bun which when translated means nun's farts!) or a poutine à trou, a tart mixture of cranberries, raisins and apples, tucked in a sweet pastry sleeve. You'll find them on the menu at restaurants and dinner theatres all along the Acadian coast. So this year, visit New Brunswick's Acadian Coastal Drive and discover the home of authentic Acadian culture, where you'll be wrapped in heart-touching history and hearty hospitality. Then take a bit of joie de vivre back home with you.... you'll find we have lots to share!
